XV Lab//Kino “León 450”
Cine Colectivo invites independent filmmakers working in the areas of acting, production, scriptwriting, directing, photography, music, makeup, sound, art direction, editing, animation, and anyone interested in co-producing short film projects with Cine Colectivo as part of the XV Lab//Kino event, which will take place from December 12th to 20th, 2025, in León, Guanajuato.Lab//Kino is an international film production laboratory where, over the course of eight days, 70 filmmakers produce, edit, and screen different short films through experience, collaboration, and experimentation, coming together to generate effective and efficient solutions in film production.

The 15th Lab//Kino consists of two days of workshops, a production meeting, five days of filming (10 hours per project), post-production, and finally a premiere gala. All of this takes place in the city of León, Guanajuato, located in central Mexico and known as the world capital of leather and footwear, which boasts a variety of locations ideal for film production.
For this fourteenth edition, you must commit to participating every day of the Lab.

PARTICIPATION PROFILE
At Lab//Kino, we are looking for people who want to be part of a large community of artists and who identify with the following characteristics:
- Be of legal age.
- Openness to collaborating in different film roles and sharing their work in at least three projects.
- Commitment and professionalism in the agreements made between participants and with the organizing committee.
- Thanks to everyone involved: organizing committee, participants, and sponsors through the screenings in all versions of the short film.
- A sense of collaboration in the loan of equipment, props, locations, and transportation.
- Ability to experience the entire Lab//Kino experience from December 12th to 20th: workshops, production meeting, parties, opening toast, filming, and premiere gala.
- Sharing the values of tolerance, inclusion, sustainability, respect, and collaboration
- We have a zero-tolerance policy for abuse or harassment of any kind, so any report is taken very seriously and will be followed through to the final consequences.
- If you have participated in previous editions in the direction and/or co-production of a short film, you must have submitted the final cut and press kit and complied with the rules during your participation.
PARTICIPATION RULES MUST BE SIGNED WITH CINE COLECTIVO TO BE PART OF THE 15TH LAB//KINO.
SHORT FILM PROJECT REGISTRATION AND PROJECT CHARACTERISTICS
- The projects to be developed during the XV Lab//Kino will be fiction short films that can be recognized as part of the celebration of the 450th anniversary of the city of León, Guanajuato.
- We are seeking short fiction projects of approximately 6 minutes, where the production values and acting figures are centered on and/or framed by the city.
- Only original scripts submitted in professional PDF format will be considered.
- Screenplay must be a maximum of 6 pages. (The subject matter is subject to the aforementioned guidelines.)
- Shooting must be a maximum of 10 hours.
- A maximum of 2 main actors.
- Maximum of 3 locations (within the city of León, Gto., and previously authorized by the organizing committee)
- Exclusive use of original music (a library of original music licensed for use in projects will be available)
- Only one project may be submitted per person.
- All short films.
- Only ONE (non-divisible) day of filming may be assigned.
- The crew must be made up ONLY of participants accepted for the 15th Lab//Kino, without exception.
- The event is completely free; however, Lab//Kino and Cine Colectivo will not cover any expenses that may arise during the pre-production, production, post-production, and distribution stages, nor any responsibilities that may arise during filming. This is the responsibility of the short film director or, where applicable, the production team.
- Each project may be assigned a production manager, a location manager, and a casting director, selected by Cine Colectivo.
ALL PROJECTS WILL SIGN A CO-PRODUCTION CONTRACT WITH CINE COLECTIVO.
As this is a co-production with Cine Colectivo, the Lab//Kino committee will be able to provide and advise in the following areas:
- Some equipment needs such as sound, camera, and lighting.
- Recording booth for ADR, music, foley, and dubbing.
- Editing room with furniture and internet (no computer equipment).
- We can provide accommodation for non-resident participants (without a companion).
- Meals are provided for all registered participants during the production phase (December 11-16).
RULES
This call will be open until October 2, 2025.
Participation requires the following:
- Complete a participant registration form: https://forms.gle/Ktm8Hy9G8gby57Ac7 You must include a 1-minute video stating your reasons for participating in the 15th Lab//Kino. This registration is for individuals and does not guarantee your participation. You must wait for the acceptance message.
- If you have a short film script that you would like to co-produce, you must complete a project registration form: https://forms.gle/x3oWcobe5Kg1MNAT7 You must also include your script in .pdf format and a 1-minute video pitch in which you tell us the synopsis of your story, production values and how you will solve them, as well as a festival itinerary before October 2nd. This registration is for projects only; the applicant must also complete the participant form.
- Videos must be hosted on a platform that does not expire and is accessible (Vimeo, Google Drive, YouTube, Dropbox, etc.; avoid WeTransfer).
RESULTS
The results of the call for submissions will be announced on October 21, 2025. Participants will be notified via WhatsApp, and the selected projects will be announced on our social media channels. If accepted, you must confirm your participation by replying to the message before October 28. If you do not receive a response, your spot will be granted to someone else.
If your short film is produced during Lab//Kino, you must:
- Assign the Cine Colectivo the rights to screen in special screenings.
- Include Lab//Kino bumpers at the beginning and end of the short films.
- Inform the organizing committee and your crew of your project's achievements.
- Include Lab//Kino and Cine Colectivo as co-producers.
- Those responsible for the direction and production of the project agree to sign all documents required by the Organizing Committee.
- The production portfolio must be submitted no later than December 1, 2025, and must include: short and long synopsis, final draft script, breakdown, aesthetic and visual proposal, shooting plan, and shooting list. The Lab//Kino committee will offer advice throughout the pre-production stage.
- The first cut of the short films made during the Lab//Kino week must be submitted for screening during the Gala Premiere on Saturday, December 14, at 12:00 pm. Lab//Kino screens the short films as submitted and does not calibrate the projector for each short film. Therefore, it is not responsible for out-of-frame or very dark projections.
- The final cut of the short films must be submitted, along with their press kit, to the Lab//Kino team no later than March 23, 2026.
ABOUT CINE COLECTIVO
This lab aims to offer a better experience to the community, and the requirements specified in this call for proposals are aimed at achieving a better project for all participants.
Cine Colectivo is a non-profit civil association dedicated to managing film projects in Guanajuato and beyond. Lab//Kino is a Cine Colectivo project that has been in the works since 2011. Every year, a group of filmmakers meets to manage this lab, from project design, graphic concept, logistics, strategic alliances, production, venue loan, and the closing screening.
